Columbus Air Force Base (CAFB) is a United States Air Force base located in Columbus, Mississippi. It is known as the home of Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training (SUPT) for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy. CAFB’s mission is to provide quality pilot training for the Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and international student pilots, as well as to support the training and education of all military personnel.

The base was established in 1941 as part of the military build-up prior to the United States’ entry into World War II. Since then, CAFB has played a pivotal role in training generations of military aviators. The base covers an area of approximately 6,812 acres and is home to over 5,000 military and civilian personnel.

CAFB is best known for its pilot training programs, which include the 14th Flying Training Wing (FTW), 37th FTW, and the 48th FTW. The 14th FTW provides primary and introductory flight training for all U.S. Air Force and Navy pilots. The 37th FTW specializes in the advanced phase of pilot training, training pilots for airlift, tanker, and bomber aircraft. The 48th FTW is responsible for training future remotely piloted aircraft pilots and sensor operators, as well as providing introduction to fighter fundamentals training.

In addition to its pilot training programs, CAFB also provides a wide range of support services and facilities for military personnel and their families. These include housing, medical services, child care, and recreational amenities. The base also has a strong partnership with the local community and regularly hosts events and activities that strengthen the bond between the base and the surrounding area.

Overall, Columbus Air Force Base is a vital part of the United States military infrastructure and plays a crucial role in training future generations of military pilots. Its dedication to excellence in training and its commitment to the well-being of its personnel make it an integral part of the nation’s defense capabilities.
